Creating Change at MSU

Identifying problems and coming up with solutions to those problems is the easy side of shared governance at MSU. Being committed to and taking proactive action is a much more challenging side.
Student government, namely the Minnesota State Student Association (MSSA), can make things happen at MSU, but not without a legitimate voice from its student constituency. Tuition, fees, residence hall rates, textbook prices, and parking permit costs all saw increases in the most recent academic year. Students, including student government, were given ample opportunity to voice their concerns, so we as students must all look to one another for answers.
It is imperative that students take the time to voice concerns through the channels available: MSSA meetings, joining a committee, emailing your senate representative, viewing the MSSA website at www.mnsu.edu/mssa and even simple tasks such as filling out a surveys. If we're not being proactive with our concerns, we'll all be looking in the rear view to a campus unaffected by its primary investors.

Sustaining a dialogue between the leadership of the Minnesota State Student Association (MSSA) and the student body has been a desire of MSSA leaders and students of the past. It seems that providing communication opportunities outside the senate chambers and sit-down forums serves as a practical approach to reaching our ever-extending student body.
From time to time, I will share my thoughts on campus issues and events. I’d like to point out that only official resolutions of the MSSA represent the student body and not the opinion of an individual representative. This is a chance to exchange ideas with fellow Mavericks and enhance student involvement on our campus. Take advantage, but do not abuse this opportunity. At best, this blog will function as a pipeline between students or at worst, end up as a brief experiment on the information superhighway. Talk to you soon!
